Freestyle Language

Freestyle Language is a personal approach to foreign language learning. I document the information I come across while researching and learning numerous languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Drupal Information Architecture
For me, one of the most intriguing aspects about designing a Drupal site is working with the web information architecture. My goal is to design an entity that simultaneously achieves usability and search engine optimization.
This can be achieved via combinations of Drupal modules such as pathauto, token and tagadelic, which work together with the taxonomy module to produce easy surfing, searching and indexing.
Specifically with Freestyle Language, I am using three vocabulary instances, each of which uses free-tagging. The three vocabularies are languages, keywords and key terms.
When I publish an article, I add the pertinent languages to "Languages", the appropriate single keywords to "Keywords" and any key terms to "Key Terms". In this way, users are able to quickly see these tag clouds and find the information they seek. Additionally, it allows me to spread these keywords out there to the search engines.
Using the blocks that the tagadelic module creates for each vocabulary item, the most popular tags in all three vocabs are displayed on the right side of the screen, next to a Google AdSense instance.
From Freestyle Language
I am a linguist and a lover of languages. My native language is English. I speak fluent French, Portuguese and Spanish. I am fairly proficient with Italian and can eek by in German and Mandarin Chinese.
On this blog, I share my experiences learning languages both on the web and off. On the web, I generally use Free Language to find solid resources. Off the web, I spend any free time working on improving some language or another.
Currently, I am interested in starting studies in Arabic and Russian, as well as continuing to improve my Mandarin Chinese, German and Italian skills. I will blog about all of these languages here - and more.
I will also start a podcast (yes, another one) for people interested in learning the English language. I will offer transcriptions of what I say - nothing fancy.
