Grow Clean Air

Grow Clean Air Logo

I have been involved with the launch of a Drupal-powered website for a project called Grow Clean Air. It was a simple Drupal 6 deployment, with only poormanscron, tagadelic, token and pathauto modules. The theme is a variation of Interactive Media.

Here's some info about the site content:

This website is the latest incarnation of an effort that has been going on for nearly a decade to simultaneously reduce the global carbon footprint and empower farmers in Africa and India with sustainable agriculture and health practices.

The main things you can do at Grow Clean Air are:

Simultaneously Offset Your Carbon Footprint and Empower Communities in Africa and Asia to Change Their World and Yours
Demand more transparency from the exploding carbon market!
Discover the Facts about the Exploding Carbon Market
Offset your carbon (CO2) footprint by purchasing credits from India and Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda)
Find a List of Recommended Carbon Calculators

Here's a snippet from their site:

Don't simply offset your emissions when, at no extra cost, you can also visibly...

* be active in supporting sustainable community agriculture for developing countries in Africa and Asia
* contribute to the continued development of one of the most unique forestation projects in the world
* show your family and friends the live, up-to-the-minute results of where your intelligent money is working for them and for you
* empower focused and dedicated Small Groups in developing countries to create a brighter future on a local and global scale
* increase food quality standards for tens of thousands of participants in four countries (India, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda)
* feel good every time you read our latest newsletter or visit our site and discover what you have helped build
* do your part to make sure your children's children's children can breathe clean air

We deliver real results to you and the communities we work with, plain and simple.

The TIST Project, which actually empowers people th grow the trees and share the Best Practices in Small Groups, was started by Clean Air Action and is aided by The Institute for Environmental Innovation.

Grow Clean Air makes these credits available online for the consumer market in an effort to increase the overall positive impact of the TIST Program, allowing people around the world to quickly and easily offset their carbon footprint.

Very cool! If this interests you, find out why Grow Clean Air is a step ahead of the rest!

Web Entity's Purpose

Freestyle Language is a personal approach to foreign language learning. I document the information I come across while researching and learning numerous languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Drupal Information Architecture

For me, one of the most intriguing aspects about designing a Drupal site is working with the web information architecture. My goal is to design an entity that simultaneously achieves usability and search engine optimization.

This can be achieved via combinations of Drupal modules such as pathauto, token and tagadelic, which work together with the taxonomy module to produce easy surfing, searching and indexing.

Specifically with Freestyle Language, I am using three vocabulary instances, each of which uses free-tagging. The three vocabularies are languages, keywords and key terms.

When I publish an article, I add the pertinent languages to "Languages", the appropriate single keywords to "Keywords" and any key terms to "Key Terms". In this way, users are able to quickly see these tag clouds and find the information they seek. Additionally, it allows me to spread these keywords out there to the search engines.

Using the blocks that the tagadelic module creates for each vocabulary item, the most popular tags in all three vocabs are displayed on the right side of the screen, next to a Google AdSense instance.

From Freestyle Language

I am a linguist and a lover of languages. My native language is English. I speak fluent French, Portuguese and Spanish. I am fairly proficient with Italian and can eek by in German and Mandarin Chinese.

On this blog, I share my experiences learning languages both on the web and off. On the web, I generally use Free Language to find solid resources. Off the web, I spend any free time working on improving some language or another.

Currently, I am interested in starting studies in Arabic and Russian, as well as continuing to improve my Mandarin Chinese, German and Italian skills. I will blog about all of these languages here - and more.

I will also start a podcast (yes, another one) for people interested in learning the English language. I will offer transcriptions of what I say - nothing fancy.

This is the start of a new way to keep track of all my "drupaling".

I have too many Drupal sites all over the place and I need to harness them into one unified web entity. They will remaining individual and poignant in content and style, with each individual entity of the Gestalt must feed the other entities, in turn receiving a symbiotic traffic flow thanks to the technology available once you step up to the Drupal platform.

Core modules such as Feed Aggregator make this all possible.
