Free Language
Submitted by chapman on Wed, 03/05/2008 - 05:44Free Language is by far my highest-traffic Drupal website yet. And it takes the load splendidly. :)
I used loads of modules for this site, mainly pathauto, poormanscron, tagadelic and aggregator2.
From Website
Free Language's Goals
. To organize, categorize and effectively present the existing quality online language learning resources for the end user who is interested in learing a language online.
. To disseminate free information about world languages, lessons for learning and links for exploring and discovering.
. To create an active, accessible and eclectic user base of people from around the world interested in learning languages.
. To do these things in a way that is understandable and easily-navigable by the end user.
Non-free or commercial resources are listed here only after having been reviewed by Free Language and deemed to be worthy of spending money!
So why do we call it Free Language?
We call it Free Language for several reasons, some of which we like to think are good ones.
. We will never charge for access to any part of this site.
. Anything and everything that is original here is free by the terms of the GNU FDL.
. We focus largely on and steer our users towards free (as in price) resources available on the Web.
. We encourage and support our users to collectively build a knowledgebase in the Public Domain.
. Our end goal will effectively eliminate the need for commercial resources.
Free Language is a moiety in unrev.org's entelechy.

Freestyle Language
Submitted by chapman on Sun, 02/03/2008 - 08:14Web Entity's Purpose
Freestyle Language is a personal approach to foreign language learning. I document the information I come across while researching and learning numerous languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Drupal Information Architecture
For me, one of the most intriguing aspects about designing a Drupal site is working with the web information architecture. My goal is to design an entity that simultaneously achieves usability and search engine optimization.
This can be achieved via combinations of Drupal modules such as pathauto, token and tagadelic, which work together with the taxonomy module to produce easy surfing, searching and indexing.
Specifically with Freestyle Language, I am using three vocabulary instances, each of which uses free-tagging. The three vocabularies are languages, keywords and key terms.
When I publish an article, I add the pertinent languages to "Languages", the appropriate single keywords to "Keywords" and any key terms to "Key Terms". In this way, users are able to quickly see these tag clouds and find the information they seek. Additionally, it allows me to spread these keywords out there to the search engines.
Using the blocks that the tagadelic module creates for each vocabulary item, the most popular tags in all three vocabs are displayed on the right side of the screen, next to a Google AdSense instance.
From Freestyle Language
I am a linguist and a lover of languages. My native language is English. I speak fluent French, Portuguese and Spanish. I am fairly proficient with Italian and can eek by in German and Mandarin Chinese.
On this blog, I share my experiences learning languages both on the web and off. On the web, I generally use Free Language to find solid resources. Off the web, I spend any free time working on improving some language or another.
Currently, I am interested in starting studies in Arabic and Russian, as well as continuing to improve my Mandarin Chinese, German and Italian skills. I will blog about all of these languages here - and more.
I will also start a podcast (yes, another one) for people interested in learning the English language. I will offer transcriptions of what I say - nothing fancy.

Hearth.ws
Submitted by chapman on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 11:41Hearth.ws is a simple Drupal site with a single purpose: to bring together all of the feeds from the unrev.org entelechy into one site. At a glance, users can see all of the latest content from Free Language, Freestyle Language, Money Flows, Mandarin Chinese Info, Small World Servers, Free Wiki, Free Music Software, Free the Sounds, Anonymous Photo, woodriff.org, Drupalize.org, Babel Stack, Conscious Manifestations, Conscious Manifestations dot com, Freely Renewable, Opal Myth... and so on. Basically, all the sites in the entelechy, some of which are still in the works.
I used the core Drupal Feed Aggregator module to achieve bringing all of these feeds together into Hearth.ws. Every 12 hours, the Feed Aggregator updates itself via cron.php and all of the latest content is dynamically pulled into the aggregator and displayed on the front page, with the latest five articles from each site featured on the front page. :)

Drupalize.org

This is the start of a new way to keep track of all my "drupaling".
I have too many Drupal sites all over the place and I need to harness them into one unified web entity. They will remaining individual and poignant in content and style, with each individual entity of the Gestalt must feed the other entities, in turn receiving a symbiotic traffic flow thanks to the technology available once you step up to the Drupal platform.
Core modules such as Feed Aggregator make this all possible.
